Angel Reese partners with McDonald’s.
Put off by the brashness of the NCAA Champion and current WNBA star Angel Reese? I have bad news for you: She’s still winning! Announced last week, Angel Reese partners with McDonald’s on a limited time meal. “The Angel Reese Special“, here for a limited time, drops on February 10th, right in time for Black History Month. The meal deal includes a BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder® with Cheese featuring a new Bold BBQ Sauce, medium fries, and medium drink.
Trying Something New.
McDonald’s is not new to celebrity meal collaborations. In recent years, the company has done meal deals with superstar rappers Travis Scott, Cardi B and Quavo, and Saweetie. In the past, McDonald’s was know for their famous ads featuring NBA Hall of Famers Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. However, this marks the first time that McDonald’s has worked in collaboration with a female athlete.
“McDonald’s has always been a big part of my life, from grabbing a McChicken® Sandwich as a kid to being named a McDonald’s All American in 2020,” said Reese. “It’s really a dream come true to be the first-ever female athlete to have my own meal and be a part of McDonald’s amazing basketball legacy. I hope the Angel Reese Special inspires young athletes everywhere to never give up on pursuing their dreams.”
This is just the beginning, according to Jennifer “JJ” Healan, Vice President of Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture at McDonald’s. The special is just one step in the company’s plan to build relationships with a new generation of basketball fans. “We want to continue to fuel their love for the game and support athletes on and off the court,” says Healan. “We’re excited to bring our legacy with basketball culture to a new generation, and partnering with Angel is only the beginning.”
In the past few months, a number of corporations have caught flack for the shuttering of their DEI programs. Although McDonald’s was one of the first to do so, they seem to have skirted much of the boycott talk. Do you plan on purchasing this meal or will you be avoiding it all together?
