“TOTAL HALP ME SING!”

This past weekend I took a very spur-of-moment trip to Atlanta. And when I say spur-of-the-moment I really mean it. I had a conversation in on Friday morning that made me think that a trip to the Trap Museum was worth the 4 and a half hour drive. By 8 PM, I was standing in a very long line on Travis Street with a bunch of other people who came to see the trapnificent sights.

The next morning I sent a text to the homie Gee Smalls to let him know that 1) I was in town and 2) I wanted to come check out his restaurant, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen and Bar located in College Park, Georgia. To be clear: it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, the customer service was stellar, and the vibes…

The vibes were absolutely amazing!

😎 VIBEZ ON 1000! Eating a contemporary take on my culture’s cuisine while listening to a New Orleans Bounce version of Anita Baker tracks followed by a rousing rendition of “Back Dat Azz Up” is the definition of positive vibes, for me. I couldn’t even capture all of the singing and chair dancing everyone was doing. Felt like a family reunion or something 😂!

Then on the way back home to THE GREAT STATE OF CHARLESTON, I stopped in Orangeburg, South Carolina to satisfy my sweet tooth at Randolph’s Artisan Italian Ice and Gelato. It just so happen that one of the Radolph’s (Nakisha) was there. And since it was nearing closing time, and the spot was relatively empty, we were able to have a great conversation. At some point I had to pause our convo to let her know how much I appreciated the store’s playlist. She was bumping a playlist full of Pharrell Williams tracks. At one point, “Excuse Me, Miss” featuring Jay Z came on and I kinda lost it! I mean, who expects to hear Pharrell deep cuts at a Gelato shop in Orangeburg? Not I!
